Cold Weather Riding

In one of our recent articles, we outlined some winterization tips. For those of you who will brave the weather and ride well into the fall before the snow flies(or those of you who can ride year-round), we have some cold weather riding tips for you.

  • Start with a pair of insulated gloves.  Medium, uninsulated lightweight gloves are sufficient if the temperatures aren't too harsh, but for colder weather heavy, insulated leather gloves are best.  It they are too bulky to drive properly, however, it may be a good idea to invest in some heated grips.
  • Insulated boots to keep your feet warm.  Look for a pair that will also keep you cool, dry and comfortable in the summer.
  • A balaclava or ski mask underneath your full face helmet will keep your face plenty warm.
  • Wear a neck wrap to keep the wind from getting inside your jacket.
  • Layer up.  Wear multiple layers underneath a thick leather jacket.

With these tips, you can extend your motorcycle riding season or even keep riding comfortably all year if your climate allows!
